For quite some years I played in an amateur band. I made arrangements, directed and held a clarinet part. The music we played spanned from the theme of Petrouchka to blues arrangements. One time, some members of the band asked how would sound a contemporary piece composed with our instrumentation. The name of the band was the sparrows.
Long after leaving the band, in 2013, I began to compose a first piece dedicated to them. Fanfare for the Sparrows I therefore saw the light of day in 2019.
Over time, the band had undergone changes in instrumentation and it is the latter that I used for Fanfare for the Sparrows II. This second piece is perhaps less "fanfare" than the first.
