Our work process is not based on any precise concept. We approach our painting with total liberty, following certain path that we are naturally drawn to. These interests are manifested by the use of varied materials : paper, string, sand, cloth, unusual objects, cardboard, glass etc... Well, let's say, almost anything that we can get our hands on. The supports on which we paint are varied : canvas, wood, glass, paper etc... Up to now we use exclusively acrylic paint.
Our 4 hands painting generally varies between two methods : working simultaneously on 2 or 3 paintings taking turns or working together on the same painting. Before starting a painting, we never set any rules or directions. The colors, objects and structures that we each put together, sometimes take different paths and may seem unlikely. We nearly never communicate during the painting process. It is not a rule, but we don't feel the need to express endless discussions during the making of a painting. Nonetheless, somehow, similar paths progressively emerge. Each painter is free to suggest a change of path. Or a pause on a certain painting to let it sink in. A painting is "declared" finished only when the decision is mutual.
Four hands painting consists in achieving a common goal, so that all the rough or imprecise ideas in the beginning, become one painting. Each participant learns to accept that nothing is permanent. We both have to accept the fact that anything one person does, can be modified, amplified, colored differently or deflected in a completely surprising way by the other person. It is imperative to learn how to use what the other person can provide, in order to move forward on a common road. If there is no fusion between ideas, the participants lose themselves in a conflict that can only lead to a dead end.
