September was written between September 13th and September 30th, 2019. It consists of 4 parts. Besides the imposed choice of instrumentation, I remained quite minimalist concerning the percussion. I had no preconceived plan before I started. The initial piano chord in the first part generated most of the ideas for the piece. Nevertheless, very quickly, it occurred to me that the silences would become an important element, to varying degrees, throughout the 4 parts of the composition. These silences would punctuate moments of tension and horizontal and vertical retention. The composition followed a fairly natural flow, undergoing very little change once the end point was set. At one point I had the wish to change the original order of the parts for reasons of balance, but after listening several times, this idea quickly turned out to be unnatural. It seemed clear in my mind that each movement had lead the next one.
