The tenor is also my instrument for playing jazz. I did not try to integrate jazz elements. I don't really believe in the mix between jazz and classical contemporary music. Composers like Aaron Copland and Leonard Bernstein mastered this, but were exceptions. I am a bit divided, because on one hand, the classical saxophone does not fulfill all my expectations. Every time I listen to the sound of the classical saxophone, I am always under the impression that it evolves in an alien universe. Like a tourist passing through a foreign country ! Of course, this feeling only engages my own personal opinion. I admit that my perception of the saxophone is attached to jazz and it is hard for me to erase this imprint. Nonetheless, the treatment of this quartet doesn't owe anything to jazz, at least, not consciously. Like most of my other compositions, we find a constant dialog between instruments and the use thematic memory.
scores in concert pitch, this is why the tenor saxophone is notated with a bass clef
