The "String Quartet no 2" is one of 2 pieces that I kept in which I used the twelve tone composition system. After writing a few pieces, I abandoned this system of composition. It did not at all correspond to my ideas. I took as starting point Anton Webern's quote about the fifth bagatelle of his string quartet op.9 : "I had the feeling that once the twelve tones had appeared, the piece was finished". Each part of the "String Quartet no 2" finishes when the twelve tones have been stated.
